I went to this lecture on communication and power, arranged by Human Computer Interaction and Media technology departments, School of Computer Science and Communication, KTH, together with UsersAward and Vinnova.

I find Castells work fascinating, especially in his ideas around how new communicative networks are shifting the power balance globally and locally. One of the things he emphasized was that local conditions now are becoming increaslingly important in conditioning global phenomena. While he is looking ar very large scale behaviour, he certainly acknowledges the effect of actors from all kinds of situations and sizes. I think I will look a bit closer at his previous books, I have so far been pretty shallow in my reading, but it would be even more interesting to find out more how his thoughts could be applied in smaller organizations, or even more so in emerging netwirks that are operating from other ambitions than political transformation.
