The day after my licentiate seminar, I took the liberty of assuming a passive role in this event. I was ofcourse very flattered of the mentioning of my thesis in different presentations by my advisors, which led to that others also became interested. I left a copy to Nina Gunne, who will wirte on research in Arkitekten shortly.
Many issues were of course presetned and discussed during the forum. There was an overview of research relations dividing the terrain into three areas: Academic research, the profession and “samhällsbyggande”- the continued development of the built environment and our society. Emphasis was put on looking at the city as a whole (Örjan Wikforss). Inpro, the EU development project with practices as well as universities as partners, and with a focus on tools and methods for early proejct stages was mentioned. Annika von Scheele asked for a national research program, and presented alarming figures on the percentage of research reinvestment within the building industry (0.02%- in SBUF). [She also asked for my thesis, will send he a copy ASAP]. Peter Frost rpesented methods framed as Design Dialogues, as a collaborative design instrument (user participation), and he worked on his thesis at the Interactive Institute in Malmö. Katja brought back the important issues of architectural research as a practice in itself, with a very specific culture. I also met Sonny Modig (now MKB) briefly, and promised to send him a copy of the thesis, will do ASAP as well.
